How Míngbai handles waitlist data, subtitle text, selected chunks and on-demand AI notes during private alpha.
Overview
Míngbai helps Chinese learners read subtitles by grouping lines into phrase chunks, showing selected meanings and offering on-demand notes. This policy explains the website, waitlist and planned browser-extension experience.

During private alpha, this policy describes the current website and planned extension data handling. Before public launch, we will update it to name the final providers, data flows and retention periods used by the released product.
Website and waitlist
We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate website traffic and performance. This helps us see which pages are visited and whether the site is working reliably, without using advertising cookies or building individual browsing profiles.
The current Míngbai website is a static review site. The waitlist buttons link to Tally. If you submit the form, Tally processes the information you choose to provide under its own terms and privacy policy.
We use waitlist and contact information to manage alpha access, reply to messages, send invite or onboarding information, and understand interest in the product.
Extension data
The extension is designed around supported video subtitle text and selected chunks. It is not intended to read or build a profile of general browsing activity.
To provide phrase parsing, meanings, translations and related learning features, Míngbai may process subtitle text, selected chunks, limited surrounding subtitle context and technical information needed to run or debug the extension.
AI notes
On-demand AI notes run only when the learner requests them. They are intended for extra cultural, register or grammar nuance, and are separate from the phrase parser, gloss and translation layers.
Míngbai is not designed to send every subtitle line to an AI model in the background.
Telemetry and logs
During private alpha, Míngbai may use limited technical logs or product telemetry to understand reliability, errors and whether core features are working. These signals are used to improve the product, not to create a general viewing profile.
Hosting, form, email, analytics, AI or infrastructure providers may also receive technical information such as IP address, device or browser details, timestamps and error data when their services are used.
Third-party services
Míngbai may use third-party providers for waitlist collection, hosting, email, analytics, AI services and infrastructure. Those providers process information under their own policies and contractual terms.
At this stage, Tally is used for waitlist collection. Before public launch, this policy will name the providers used for hosting, email, analytics, AI processing and infrastructure.
Retention and deletion
We keep waitlist and contact information for as long as needed to run the alpha, manage access and respond to messages, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
Specific retention periods for extension telemetry, parser requests and AI requests should be finalised before broader release.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and you can object to certain processing. Contact [email protected].
Some providers used for hosting, forms, email, analytics, AI services or infrastructure may process information outside the UK or European Economic Area under their own safeguards and terms.
